Size Guide
Sizing Information

Bras

There is no single measurement method to determine bra size what bra size will work for every body. The only reliable way to determine bra size is to try on finished bras made from that pattern. Given the bra sizing challenge, we recommend starting by making your ready-to-wear size.

If you do not have a ready-to-wear size or at a loss for what size to start with, we offer the below sizing guidelines for our bra sewing patterns. If you have any sizing questions, feel free to contact us!

  • When taking measurements, be sure to stand up straight and exhale fully.
  • Measure body circumference directly under the bust with the tape measure parallel to floor. Round the measurement to the nearest inch, rounding down if you are at the ½” mark. This is the band size.
  • Measure body circumference at the fullest part of the bust while wearing a bra that is supportive yet made of a relatively thin fabric. Again, keep the tape measure parallel to the floor.
  • Derive cup size by subtracting the band size from the full bust measurement. Consult the chart below to find cup size. For example, if the full bust is 36″ and the band size is 34″, the difference is 2″. Based on the cup size chart above, this difference corresponds to a B cup. If you are in between sizes, use the larger size.

SISTER SIZES

Sister sizes are bra sizes that have the same bra cup volume and underwire size. The difference between sister sizes is the size of the band. For example, the sizes 30D, 32C, 34B and 36A all have the same cup volume and use the same underwire. The difference between those sizes is the band. This blog post has instructions for how to modify the band to reach the sister sizes on this table.

Details

Using pre-formed foam bra cups, the Mystic bra provides invisible shaping and support underneath even the most fitted garments. Finally, you can make your own beautiful seamless t-shirt bra!

The Mystic bra is the ideal seamless everyday T-shirt bra featuring:

  • Seamless cups that do not show underneath clothing;
  • Underwire support; and
  • A comfortable frameless design.

Notable Pattern Features:

  • An instantly downloadable PDF pattern.
  • No taping required! All pattern pieces fit entirely inside the printable space of US Letter or A4 size paper. For printing ease, each size is grouped together.
  • All pattern pieces are separate, not nested, and clearly show the seam allowance and/or trim allowance as applicable. This allows for construction clarity and simplifies any pattern alterations.
  • The instructions are professionally illustrated, making the seemingly complex steps of bra construction very clear and easy to understand.
  • This pattern was graded by professionals who send their output directly into production so you can be extra confident that you have a great starting point for your garment.

Size Range

This bra will only be available in A to DD cup sizes for band sizes 32 to 40 and B to DD cup sizes for 30 bands.

Printing Note:

  • Find your size to select which pages to print. The complete document has nearly 50 pages.

Note that given the wide variety of pre-formed bra cups and the differences in the fabrics used to cover these cups, there is no separate bra cup pattern for the Mystic bra. The pattern pieces are for the bridge, frame and band. For this bra, the instructions detail how to seamlessly cover the cups with your chosen knit fabric and integrate them into the bra. For more on the recommended supplies for this bra, see our blog.

Great fit

I'm so pleased I bought this pattern.
It's exactly the style I like to buy and now I can make it for myself using lace remnants and my bra stash.
I did need to finesse the base of the bra construction without needing to sew on additional tape to the bra base, so now I'm set to use this pattern again and again.

Really great pattern!

I've made 5 mesh/lace bras and thought I'd try my hand at some foam. This pattern's instructions were super clear and the fit seems accurate! I usually wear a 34DD, so that's what I cut out. It feels a touch snug but still wearable (it'll stretch out I'm sure, so it's probably right where it needs to be), and I love the height of the back band - feels very secure. I will absolutely be remaking this pattern about a bajillion times :) Now if only I could find the perfect cups lol

A few details missing for the beginner bra-maker

The biggest challenge is what to do if the bra does not fit. I need instructions on how to alter it! I used the exact foam cups and underwires that were recommended, but the fit is very peculiar to my body and I don't know what to do to change it. Most bra alteration guides are for multi-piece sewn cups, not molded foam cups.
I also struggled to find the correct fabrics, as none of my local fabric stores were experienced in bra making and had no advice to offer, and I couldn't find many of the items required. I'm not very experienced in fabric types, especially bra fabrics.
The pattern also did not clearly specify which notions to use at each step (mainly the elastics - I had three elastics to use, but I didn't know which was which so I just guessed).
Otherwise, I did successfully make a beautiful bra, and I'm proud of what I learned, but I don't know how to move forward in making a bra I can actually wear.
