Bras

There is no single measurement method to determine bra size what bra size will work for every body. The only reliable way to determine bra size is to try on finished bras made from that pattern. Given the bra sizing challenge, we recommend starting by making your ready-to-wear size.

If you do not have a ready-to-wear size or at a loss for what size to start with, we offer the below sizing guidelines for our bra sewing patterns. If you have any sizing questions, feel free to contact us!

MEASURING

  • When taking measurements, be sure to stand up straight and exhale fully.
  • Measure body circumference directly under the bust with the tape measure parallel to floor. Round the measurement to the nearest inch, rounding down if you are at the ½” mark.This is the band size.
  • Measure body circumference at the fullest part of the bust while wearing a bra that is supportive yet made of a relatively thin fabric. Again, keep the tape measure parallel to the floor.
  • Derive cup size by subtracting the band size from the full bust measurement. Consult the chart below to find cup size. For example, if the full bust is 36″ and the band size is 34″, the difference is 2″. Based on the cup size chart above, this difference corresponds to a B cup. If you are in between sizes, use the larger size.

SISTER SIZES

Sister sizes are bra sizes that have the same bra cup volume and underwire size. The difference between sister sizes is the size of the band. For example, the sizes 30D, 32C, 34B and 36A all have the same cup volume and use the same underwire. The difference between those sizes is the band. Details

While we were working on the Lexington bra pattern, I realized that I just had to have matching underwear. I just needed a matching set! As soon as the bra style was finalized, we started developing the Munroe briefs and I am loving the resulting set.

 

The Munroe is a high-waist brief designed to coordinate with the Lexington bra to create a matching set. The Munroe's features include:

  • front and back panels made from the fabric or lace used for the Lexington bra;
  • side panels made from the power net used for the Lexington bra; and
  • easy, accessible construction for the home sewist using a regular sewing machine or overlock.

     

    Notable Pattern Features:

    • An instantly downloadable PDF pattern.
    • Minimal taping required! For printing ease as well as paper and printer ink savings, the document is formatted as a layered PDF.
    • All pattern pieces are separate, not nested, and clearly show the seam allowance and/or trim allowance as applicable. This allows for construction clarity and simplifies any pattern alterations.

    I have resiced and printed it out i have yet to make them! But they look to be exactly what I am looking for. It was about a 2 months of me looking around at diffrint pattern befor setaling on this one! And I determined that this was the one for the higher wast and multiple pattern pieces it has to have the abilaty to chang up the colors and to have the 50s style that have loved!
