Introducing the Richdale tap shorts sewing pattern, the newest addition to our Silk Essentials Collection!
An enduring classic for your lingerie wardrobe, our tap shorts can be worn with our Bellevue camisole as part of a lounge set, or underneath clothing as a luxe underwear alternative (shown here with our Fenway bra). Either way the Richdale tap shorts are another great and versatile addition to your lingerie wardrobe.
In case you are not familiar tap shorts, they are truly the most comfortable underwear in hot weather. Their loose, non-clingy fit allows for more air flow around the body than traditional underwear that fits snuggly against the body.
Because one of the great things about sewing is that you get to make what you want, this pattern is designed to allow many simple variations to customize the shorts to your preferences. For example, you can play with the length as we did in this post with the white version above showing a lace trim extended length. You could also adjust the hem for a cheeky look!
The rise can also be easily adjusted up closer to the waist (as we did for the floral sample below) or down lower for more of a hipster fit.
Of course let's not forget all the different ways you can use lace and shape the hem!
Right now, my favorite way to wear the Richdale shorts is as an underwear alternative underneath skirts and dresses to stay extra comfortable in the summer heat. I also love being able to start dressing for the day with a lovely layer of silk.
In terms of construction, the Richdale tap shorts pattern is a great beginner sewing project. Making the shorts will help you use and develop skills such as sewing French seams, sewing baby hems, and of course, sewing with silky fabrics.
As always, the material for each pattern includes the clear, fully illustrated instructions you have come to expect from Orange Lingerie and, as with all our patterns, each size pattern is presented separately with its seam lines.
Like the other patterns in our Silk Essentials Collection, we provide both “Print at Home” and “Copy Shop” layered PDF files. The layered PDF format allows for efficient printing and tracing since you select the size you want to print and that is all that shows up on the printout. Our instructions show you how to print these files.
I hope you enjoy the new pattern as much as I do! Be sure to tag your makes with #RichdaleShorts and #OrangeLingerie so I can find them all. I love seeing everyone’s unique version of our sewing patterns!
